Health Care Area in Ecuador

Our largest focus area, evidently, health care. For many years, we have been providing medical care to millions of people in need.

We have a specialized network of hospitals, where over five million people receive medical care each year. Our hospitals’ medical staff includes highly trained professionals in many different medical health areas such as Pediatrics, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Psychiatry, Cardiology, Neurology, etc. This network has allowed us to provide health care to people from all over the country, especially rural areas where there is a lack of adequate medical services, regardless of race, religion or sexual preference.

We are constantly training our staff, and equipping our hospitals with the latest, state-of-the-art medical technology, which puts us at the forefront of scientific and technological innovation of Ecuadorian health care. All of this, to provide high-level health care, with quality and warmth.

At our hospitals, people get a second chance to live and thrive. From newborns to the elderly, every person who comes to our hospitals (Hospital Luis Vernaza, Hospital de Niños Dr. Roberto Gilbert E., Hospital Gineco-obstétrico Enrique C. Sotomayor and Instituto de Neurociencias) receives medical care at affordable subsidized prices or completely free under certain circumstances. All the aforementioned hospitals were the first in their class to receive the ISO 9001:2008 international Quality Management System certification. This certifies that all our medical facilities comply with international quality standards. This, along with our scientific achievements and modern technology, has earned our hospitals the honor of being recognized, locally and abroad, as some of the best in Ecuador. Nevertheless, we are constantly improving, always looking to give the best to our patients.

With the help of our Social Work department, Junta de Beneficencia de Guayaquil is able to aid the least privileged in need of immediate medical care. If you would like to help us help more people, please click on the medical aid programs below and find out what we do in these areas.

In Ecuador, thousands of children are born or diagnosed with some type of CHD that puts their lives at risk. Most of these children come from low-income families that cannot afford medical treatments or surgery. This is why we have built the most modern and comprehensive Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Unit at our children's hospital, Hospital de Niños Dr. Roberto Gilbert E. Each year, we perform thousands of catheterizations, open and closed-heart surgeries, to save children's lives.
For thousands of Ecuadorians, having an organ transplant represents a gift that will give them the hope to live a healthy life. Aware of this, we have equipped our Hospital Luis Vernaza with infrastructure, technology and a trained medical staff to perform organ harvesting and surgical kidney and cornea transplants. The National Institute of Organ and Tissue Transplantation, INDOT, certifies that Hospital Luis Vernaza, is fully prepared to carry out such procedures.
Our psychiatric hospital, Instituto de Neurociencias, has developed a program called “Programa de Reinserción Social”, which allows patients with mental illnesses to successfully return to their community and have a normal life. With support from their families and friends, these patients can feel valuable and useful to society, which is a key to their treatment. Not only has this program improved the patients' quality of life; it has also allowed them to join the labor force again.
This program, developed at Hospital Gineco-obstétrico Enrique C. Sotomayor, focuses on preventing mother-to-child HIV transmission during and after pregnancy. We provide both mother and child with adequate medical care that includes treatment and medication, at no cost. Thus, we can deliver healthy, HIV-free babies into this world. Our aim is to lower vertical transmission rates down to zero.
