The Project Perfect World Medical Mission led by Douglas Beck which has visited la Junta de Beneficencia for the past 18 years performed a free-of-cost surgical workday at the Roberto Gilbert Children´s Hospital to improve the quality of life of patients between 1 and 17 years of age with scoliosis problems or other orthopedic, congenital or acquired problems.

From the 20th to the 24th of May together with traumatology physicians at the Hospital they performed those surgeries which benefitted 26 children with spinal, hip, and lower limbs corrective surgeries.

Patients were previously selected by the Hospital´s traumatology physicians and later evaluated by foreign doctors who decided on the corresponding surgery according to the complexity of the cases, among them cases of neuralgic scoliosis.

Furthermore, one hundred children benefitted with orthopedic implements such as corsettes, splints, shoes, among others which would help correct malformations which do not require surgery.

For the parents of those benefitted patients, the foreign doctors perform an exemplary job since they do not only perform surgery, but are also keenly aware of all details which could interfere in their children´s recovery.

These surgeries performed in conjunction with the Junta Pediatric Hospital Doctors are also a channel for knowledge, techniques and experiential causes interchange besides strengthening that friendship built during these years.
In recognition of the work performed, Mrs. Erin Markley, Press and Cultural Official at the United States Consulate, delivered recognitions to the 31members of the Medical Mission.
